The State Key Laboratory for Manufacturing System Engineering has been completed its reorganization in November 2022, which was established in 1989. The laboratory concentrates on areas such as precision and micro-nano manufacturing technologies, industrial machine tools and key functional components, additive and biomanufacturing, intelligent sensing systems, and equipment operation monitoring. It has achieved innovation in principles and the development of key equipment for precision and micro-nano manufacturing, making significant contributions to the advancement of manufacturing technology. The laboratory focuses on the frontiers of manufacturing technology and major national demands, dedicating itself to innovative research, engineering applications, open sharing, and platform support. Since its establishment, it has received 20 national scientific and technological achievement awards(3 Second Prize of National Natural Science Award;8 Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award;9 Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award).It was evaluated as excellent twice during the State Key Laboratory assessments in 2013 and 2018. The current director of the laboratory is Academician Zhuangde Jiang, while the chairman of the academic committee is Academician Dongming Guo.
The research orientation of the laboratory is centered around the major strategic needs of the country, developing innovative methods, technologies, equipment, and devices for precision micro-nano manufacturing, constructing a complete technological chain, and forming a national-level platform for precision micro-nano manufacturing.
Over the course of more than 30 years of development, the laboratory has achieved innovation in the principles of micro-nano manufacturing and the research and development of key equipment. It has strengthened the construction of the talent team and the experimental platform, and paid attention to the close integration of original innovation with national needs. It also emphasizes the combination of process research and the independent development of equipment, as well as the integration of unit technologies with system integration. These efforts have formed the academic characteristics and technologies of this laboratory, making a historic contribution to the innovative development of China's manufacturing industry.
